There are too many stories I could tell about you, ones that to this day bring a smile to my face and warm my heart when they pop into my mind. Speaking of flexing… Something’s been on my mind a lot lately. Instagram is cool, but I see how often it’s used to compare, and “flex” materialism and status. Which never feels good to anyone except the people doing it, and let’s be honest – there’s probably a lot to unpack there. But in an attempt to never fall into that trap, I think some of us (and I’m including myself in this group) really go out of our way to swing the opposite direction and play ourselves down a lot – just in case the moments where we’re actually really proud of ourselves could be misconstrued as “Flexing”. And I’m over it. You’re allowed to be proud of yourself, to be proud of what you’ve accomplished and the life you’ve built for yourself. It doesn’t make you arrogant. There’s a huge chasm between being proud of yourself – standing fully and authentically in your life – and being a gloating, arrogant, egomaniac. There’s also a huge chasm between stating facts – the truths of who you are and what you do – and curating a life and a feed that shows off what you know other people will be jealous of. I’m done playing small, and I wish the same for you. You can be kind and successful. You can have humility and create amazing things. But let’s not be humble to a default. Let’s not pretend we’re not as dope as we are just in case someone doesn’t like it. Let’s stop acting like our accomplishments that we’ve worked really hard for don’t mean as much as they do, just in case someone’s threatened by it. How others feel about what you do and who you are have nothing to do with you. So if anyone’s gonna call you “intimidating” maybe that’s on them. Keep doing you. Keep being you. Take up space. You deserve to be here. You deserve success. You deserve to create a life you’re proud of no matter what it looks like or what anyone has to say about it. Define your own awesome. And don’t be afraid to “flex” that on the world. Some people won’t like you and that’s okay. At least the ones who DO, like you for YOU – in all your imperfect, hardworking, go-getter glory. Heart you. Keep go-gettin em. ❤️
