Jackie Shroff Instagram – Reposted from @thegrasslandstrustindia This clip has been circulated widely for the last few days and is a very bad representation of this species – The Striped Hyena. These shy creatures always avoid humans and provide cleaning services for the ecosystem. In a decade of Striped Hyena observation done by the trust team, there hasn’t been a single case of aggression shown by these animals.

The possible case scenarios for this highly unusual encounter –
1. The animal was already chased and harassed by the crowd. People already waiting on the street with their cameras on, point towards this possibility more. The already distressed animal attacked anything that came close to it.

2. Possibility of rabies infection. deadly diseases like rabies are transmitted because of free ranging dogs. An animal with rabies gets aggressive and tries to bite anything that is within the range.

सध्या अनेक माध्यमांद्वारे एक व्हिडिओ मोठ्या प्रमाणावर प्रसारित होत आहे, जो भारतीय पट्टेरी तरसाबाबत गैरसमज पसरवू शकते.
व्हिडिओत दिसणारा प्राणी- ‘भारतीय पट्टेरी तरस’ हा अतिशय लाजाळू प्राणी असून नेहमीच माणसापासून दूर राहणे पसंत करतात आणि मुख्य म्हणजे पर्यावरणाच्या स्वच्छतेचे काम करतात.
द ग्रासल‍ँँड ट्रस्ट टीमने गेल्या दशकभरात केलेल्या तरसाच्या पाहणीत अशा एकाही घटनेची नोंद नाही.
या, अत्यंत असामान्य चकमकीमागे खालील संभाव्य कारणे असू शकतात-
१. व्हिडिओत दिसणाऱ्या तरसाचा काही लोकांनी आधीच पाठलाग करून त्याला त्रास दिला असावा, त्यामुळे व्यथित होऊन त्याने त्या व्यक्तीवर बचावात्मक हल्ला केला असावा.
तरसाने हल्ला करण्या आधीच ही घटना आपल्या मोबाईलद्वारे टिपण्याचा प्रयत्न करण्यासाठी जमलेल्या जमावावरून ही शक्यता अधिक वाटते.

२. दुसरी शक्यता- तरसाला रेबिज सारख्या रोगाचा संसर्ग झाला असू शकतो.
मोकाट फिरणाऱ्या कुत्र्यांमार्फत रेबिजसारखे प्राणघातक रोग अश्या वन्य प्राण्यांना होतात, ज्यामुळे ते अधिक आक्रमक होतात व वाटेत आलेल्या कोणत्याही गोष्टीस चावण्याचा प्रयत्न करतात.
