Elizabeth Frances Instagram – I just learned the news of the passing of Fran Bennett. Every once in a while, you have one of those humans, those teachers, that leave a great impact on you, and this was Fran.
Although our lil band of misfit toys all make jokes about “breathe from your Vagina” or “Look into my Cathedral” (IYKYK) …the truth is, so much of my identity is in my voice. Our voice. Our breath. How we communicate, the quality with which we do formally, or colloquially, says so much about who we are and how we feel about ourselves in the world.
As a young BFA student, I came to @calarts meeting Fran with a higher and more unsupported voice. Without realizing, I had much more depth and support underneath. There was no need to diminish my thoughts or how I felt, and Fran taught me that. My respect and love of my voice. How grounding and powerful it can be. How soothing and kind as well.
