Justin Baldoni Instagram – To any parent who can relate…
My baby boy is going to turn four in a few weeks. 😭
I know it’s not healthy or productive but I feel like I’m grasping on to what little baby is left in him. He’s so big now. So sweet and sensitive. So strong and smart. So damn kind.
Where did the time go?
I’m doing my best to have compassion for myself for the mistakes I’ve made. The times I was too busy writing or working or just too tired to play with him when he asked. The times when I was physical there but not actually present. It honestly keeps me up some nights. This feeling that I’m not enough. That he deserves better.
Sometimes when I look at him sleeping I replay those times in my head when I missed the mark. I’ll hear those words “daddy play with me” over and over again until I realize I’m just being a bully to myself. Just opening a wound that existed long before I became a father. Long before I even became a husband.
So right now I’m letting myself feel all of it. And as I feel I’m taking a breath and trying to remember all the times I DID play.
All the times I did show up and do my best. Those are what he will remember more than anything.
Deep down I know that but sometimes it’s hard knowing I will never get that time back.
But I do have today. And hopefully tomorrow.
I might not be able to change the past but I can change the future.
If this resonates with you- take a breath with me and shake out all that guilt and shame and shit that our wounds use to reinforce a belief that couldn’t be further from the truth.
I’m doing my best.
We’re doing our best.
Keep showing up parents.
We are enough.
