Bhavai (meaning) : derived from the Sanskrit word Bhava, meaning expression or emotion.
Bhavai = Drama or Stage performances on folklore
Evident still in some parts of Gujarat, bhavai is organized as an overnight or sometimes a two to seven days program to entertain people of a village or group of villages nearby but its main purpose was to tell about Gujarati culture and inspiring stories of ancestors and God

Originally only males could perform in Bhavai even the female characters were performed by males of the team.
