Jared Harris Instagram – Fun Fact: this gigantic painting (@allegrariggio is 5’5”) hung in @coogansnyc forever. Peter Walsh gave me my first job (bar back) when I came to New York in 1990. Bless that man, who remains a treasured friend to this day. Allegra was able to salvage the painting my college friend Jeff Bennet made of me playing Hotspur in Henry IV, part 1, at the Public Theater in NYC, Christmas, ‘90. We had an exhibition in our apartment in ‘91, and Peter came, loved the painting, and did Jeffy a solid & bought it for $2000. All we actors would bundle into taxis and head uptown to Coogan’s for drinks and fun. Peter (and Tess, & David) took such great care of us; always holding court, he a raconteur, and neighborhood community builder.
Tune in to @PBS tonight at 10pm to watch “Coogan’s Way,” a celebration of Coogan’s, a business which in it’s creation and success lifted a whole neighborhood up. The true value of locally-owned businesses is they are invested in the success of their neighborhood.
