Yesterday, we met with Belgian federal minister of energy, @tinnevds.
We made it very clear that we can not support any investments in new fossil fuel infrastructure in the midst of a climate crisis.
For us, this is not about political games or numbers. It’s about the fact that a privileged part of the world is currently deciding to leave the rest of the world behind.
The fact that we are even in a position to negotiate how much energy reserves we want is a privilege in itself. This should actually make us feel very uncomfortable because it also means aiming for targets that are leaving millions of people behind.
We need a capital shift, we need to consume less, we need to work together internationally and we need to put pressure on the international targets.
We are happy to see the big investment made in renewables, but it’s not consistent as we are still pouring billions into the fossil fuel industry.
What we are talking about is a radical system change. Not symbolic.
People’s lives are on the line here.
