When we say ‘solidarity not charity’ we are actively working to deconstruct hierarchical relationships of charity that allows creates ‘givers and donors’ and ‘recipients or underprivileged’ , making rich people and corporations look generous while upholding and legitimizing the systems that allow wealth hoarding. Instead mutual aid is deeply rooted in anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism, racial justice, gender justice and disability justice principles as aims to be disruptive in addressing the root causes of issues.
