Swara Bhaskar Instagram – On 4th nov 2021 (Diwali day) I visited an orphanage in Delhi, to learn and understand the reality of the orphan crisis in India. This is what I learnt: -As per UNICEF data, there are more than 2.9 crore (29.6 million) orphan children in India. – Only 5 lakh of these are in orphanages across the country. -As per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 when orphans staying in govt. run orphanages turn 18 years of age; they must leave the orphanages. Where do these 18 year old children go??? -The orphan crisis is India’s least talked about crisis. We as a society MUST do more. This festive season open your hearts to India’s orphans.
