Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Instagram – I grew up in a tiny farming village in Denmark and spent most of my childhood exploring fields and forests – something I still love doing to this day with Nukaka and our daughters.
Did you know that forests are home to 80% of all terrestrial animals and plants. The ecosystems they sustain are essential to global biodiversity, human livelihoods and the broader needs of societies and economies globally. Forests absorb nearly one-third of all CO2 released from burning fossil fuels every year. Forest restoration could remove another 26 gigatons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
But the economic effects of COVID-19 threaten both forest livelihoods and the incentives for the conservation of these ecosystems. In the past five decades, wildlife populations have on average declined by nearly 70%. Human demand for #wildlife products such as elephant ivory, rhino horn and marine turtle shell is driving many species to extinction.
But there is a solution. UNDP initiative @TheLionsShare is helping protect nature by proactively supporting #wildlife rangers and guardians across Asia, Africa and Latin America. Do #OneThingToday on #WorldWildlifeDay to take action and save our planet by following @TheLionsShare Fund. Every new follow helps change the world. #WWD2021 #ForNature | Posted on 04/Mar/2021 00:56:45
