Amanda Schull Instagram – PART 2: If you knew me you knew Ru. He went everywhere with me. He was my canine soul mate. My (now) husband told Rupert he loved him before he told me, which makes absolute sense. To know Ru was to love him. When my son was born Rupert would rest his head near his blanket and kiss his cheeks. When I would feed Paterson, Ru would climb into my lap and Paterson would absent-mindedly play with Ru’s hair. Every decision we made as a family we made with Ru in mind. Which is why it is so unsettling to not have him in our lives any longer. We lost a little bit of our purpose. We still take his old route when we go on walks. We still forget and save a bit of fried egg to top off his breakfast from time to time. And we still do a cheer in his honor every night. I suppose the love story I’m sharing isn’t exactly a story, but more of a narrative. Our pets are our family.They are woven into the story of our lives and they give us so much more than we could ever give them because we are everything to them. I hope that wherever he is Ru knows how whole he made my life. He was and always will be my very good boy.
