Faith Ford Instagram – This is a still from one of the episodes of “Norm”. It captures Norm’s boyish spirit perfectly. Btw the “catsuit” was not my idea! Lol! I became part of Norm’s cast in the last two seasons. To work with Norm, you had to be on your game. He fed off the live audience like no one I had ever worked with before! When shooting a scene, if he felt the audience wasn’t along for the ride, he would get this glint in his eye & flash this little grin and you knew you better be ready! You see, I was from the written word school of sitcoms & even though Norm was an experienced comedy writer, his improvisational skills were let’s just say, effortlessly on point! I suspect he knew I was an improv novice, so just for fun, he would sometimes throw a little dialogue change up my way. Not too much of a change, just a little zinger that was not only hilarious, but also impossible to respond to with my original scripted dialogue. I would stare at him for a beat & then do my best to respond back, but ultimately ended up LMAO! I remember Norm turning out to the audience & saying “You see she wasn’t listening!”I turned out to them & said, “No! I was listening! He just changed his dialogue!”The audience would roar & for the rest of the night, they’d be completely engaged. They loved it! As time went on, I learned to be prepared for Norm’s off the cuff spontaneity. I actually grew to expect it. I eventually even enjoyed it! Looking back, what had seemed like a challenge at the time, has ultimately turned out to be a treasured memory. Thank you Norm, for one of the most formative comedy experiences of my career.
