“This time last week, I imagined I would release our arts policy today at the epicenter of arts and culture in New York City; Times Square and joined by artists like @marchstephanie. However, on Saturday, three innocent bystanders were the unintended targets of a shooting in broad daylight. Another tragic story of gun violence in our city. It’s time to move forward, past the outrage and rhetoric. We need leadership that addresses the root causes of gun violence and crime in our city:

When I’m mayor, I will immediately initiate a safety surge in:
✅ officers focused on gun violence
✅ community policing
✅ mental health support services & social workers
✅ funding to violence prevention programs

Thank you, former Brooklyn North NYPD Chief Nelson and Stephanie March for standing with me today. We need solutions, not empty rhetoric. Safe streets are central to bringing back the arts, our economy and everything in between.
