For the first time I feel inspired to celebrate my #birthday!

Why? Because while writing a @tijuanajackson sketch, I realized part of the reason I’ve never been inspired to celebrate my birthday, is because I didn’t believe I was worth being celebrated.

.
But turning 53 has hit differently. It’s not the age that has me feeling more inspired. It’s the humbling realization of how flawed and closed off I’ve been. It’s the gratitude for being able to see, rectify and even accept my shortcomings. It’s the appreciation for the people who love and accept me with my flaws. It’s finally overcoming fear of judgment. It’s being able to open up emotionally, and allow myself to love and be loved. It’s being comfortable with not knowing, needing help or needing mentorship.

I’ve NEVER been more comfortable in my own skin. I feel as though the pain throughout my earlier years has finally been trumped by the peace and acceptance of my later years.

.
For the first time in decades, I have crystal clear goals! For the first time in decades, I’m am genuinely grateful for everything and everyone who helped lead me to where I am today. I feel more capable now than I’ve felt in decades.

.
But @tijuanajackson and I want you to know, happiness for us has more to do with peace of mind than anything else. It’s not about what we have. It’s about WHO we have, and what we have to give. ❤️👏🏾🎗
