Noorin Shereef Instagram – “kalyaniyennum Dakshayaniyennu peraya rand streekalude katha” by R Rajasree was solely a different reading experience for me. Being a newbie to Malayalam Novels, I had to completely get my mind ready with some extra effort to get into the setting of the book. The writing pattern is different from the books I’ve read formerly. The third-person narrative made me entirely see the life stories of Dakshayani and Kalyani in a very realistic portrait. Their character and life structure, the society revolving around them, the cultural aspects that prevailed during those times, etc make up the core content of the narrative. The story travels with the rituals and traditional torture people were forced to participate in, which we the present generation are not so familiar with. The connection between the spirits and human and their influence over the human mind is drawn very artistically. The Northern Kerala dialect used adds to the mood so much and takes us to a much unfamiliar setting but with ease. To conclude, This is a well-written one that follows a unique narrative pattern.
