Refugees are some of the strongest people I’ve ever met. They have faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles but have persevered and continue to smile through it all.
But in a year where everyone has struggled to stay healthy and safe, refugees’ strength is being put to the test. From preventing the spread of COVID-19 in overcrowded living situations to keeping their children warm as temperatures drop below freezing, refugees are being challenged over and over again.

In 2019, I met with Syrian refugee families in Lebanon who were bracing for the freezing winter weather. They needed mattresses, thermal blankets and winter clothes to survive. Today on #GivingTuesday, I’m thinking of these families and what I can do to help.

Today is #WorldRefugeeDay and I’m excited to announce that my friend Abdallah, a resettled refugee living in Atlanta, will be taking over my Instagram Stories to share a little about his journey.
After fleeing Iraq, he lived in Jordan for eight years before coming to Atlanta in 2013.
Since then, he’s graduated university, become a US citizen and most exciting has just learned he’s been accepted to medical school.
