Fiann Smithwick Instagram – I’ve not been to the beach for a little while as conditions haven’t been ideal, so here’s a little throwback to a fine ammonite I found on a stormy day a few years ago on the Jurassic Coast.

It’s a nice 3D example of a genus called Liparoceras. Usually, these ammonites are found inside hard rock concretions, finding an isolated example like this in the mud is pretty unusually.
As you can see, a little wash in the sea cleaned much of the mud off. There’s some harder rock in the middle of the shell that still needs removing, but it won’t take much more work!
