Justin Baldoni Instagram – Something nobody really knows is that for a minute last year I was considering giving up on my dream. I felt uninspired creatively and my imposter syndrome was at its peak. Then I saw an early screening of #InTheHeights and I was reminded why I loved directing movies. It lit me on fire. I felt like I could feel every cell in my body. I felt connected to both myself and the world. I wanted to dance and sing! The ability to still have empathy and heart while balancing a big-budget visual spectacle is SO difficult and rare in our industry. @jonmchu is one of the most talented directors I know and I was so geeking out over the chance to chat with him about his dream on the @wearemanenough podcast. Our industry can be extremely problematic, but I still believe that the dreamers and storytellers can succeed in Hollywood without falling into the “Boys Club” which rewards power, dominance, and white men. #JonMChu is the prime example of a dreamer who tells stories through his perspective and continues to spread his light into films. When I grow up, I want to be Jon M. Chu.

We’ve been rooting for each other through highs and lows all these years…it’s why I asked him to record the main song in #fivefeetapart. I LOVE all Andy’s music but never has a song hit my soul like this one. Something happens when art is made with the pure intention to be of service. To lift our collective souls out of the darkness. When the inspiration comes not from this world but the souls waiting for us in the next. This song is all of that.
