Da’Vine Joy Randolph Instagram – To say this is an honor is an UNDERSTATEMENT. To be in this company is TRULY a full circle moment…. When I was doing Ghost on Broadway it was life changing- full of challenges. I had lost my voice while performing in the West End and for the entire run on Bway – I never fully got my voice back. As a performer, especially a singer you feel like you are nothing without your voice. I became depressed and felt lost. It all felt like a cruel joke. One day I went to a little unassuming cafe on 49th just to get away from it all. I was so deep in my own thoughts, that I didnt realize that Al Pacino himself was 3 tables down. Throughout our meals our eyes would meet, and we would politely nod and go back to our thoughts. I then got my check and as I walked out to leave, he got my attn and asked me to sit with him. I couldnt believe it. We began conversing. I felt like he was truly listening and I felt safe to share. I told him about my current situation at hand- and how I felt so alone and isolated. And like an old friend he let me vent and get it all out. He then took a moment to reflect on all that I was saying. We sat in silence for what felt like 3 min. And then he said…. ” As we ascend the ladder in this thing called life- we have visiblilty of whats on the horizon. We also have to let go of more- because we can no longer carry the same weight. So you will loose ppl and things along the way. It hurts, but its just how things go. But the beautiful thing….is that while on the ladder real will always recognize real and will align you with the right ppl and opportunities that you were destined to recieve.” I sat there dumbstruck and overwhelmed by his wise insight. He then looked me squarely in the eye said, ” I see you, and you are exactly where you need to be. Keep Climbing the Ladder.” I gave him a hug thanked him and went on to do the 2nd show of the evening. Cataloging that moment into my soul for eternity. So imagine my surprise when I found out that I’m doing my first cover with the likes of these folks. AND to top it all off- the overwhelming moment when I get to the shoot, to find that I’ll be on a LADDER NEXT TO AL PACINO. Keep Climbing yall.
