For the 27,000 Indigenous Kichwa living downstream, this is a compounded nightmare. This spill could have been prevented, and this pipeline amidst the fragile Amazonian ecosystems should never have existed as we are well aware of the threats these pipelines make up. The Ecuadorian government talks of an “ecological transition”, but has still vowed to double the country’s oil production. It is time for governments to take real actions against the climate crisis and environmental disasters. Green slogans will not save us, and we will not be fooled. A case brought after the first OCP spill in 2020 by the affected Kichwa communities is currently before Ecuador’s highest court, and it is essential that the Constitutional Court urgently resolve this case to ensure that environmental disasters like this do not occur again. Go to the link in my profile and tell the Ecuadorian Court that the Kichwa, and the Amazon, cannot wait any longer for justice! #KeepItInTheGround #PeopleNotProfit #SOSDerrameAmazonía @amazonfrontlines @confeniae @conaie @alianzaceibo @nemonte.nenquimo

Greta Thunberg Instagram – School strike week 181, in Jokkmokk to protest against the proposed mine in Gállok, on indigenous land. This mine would be catastrophic for the climate, environment and indigenous rights. The Swedish government must end the colonisation of Sápmi! Greta Thunberg Instagram – Stop the colonisation of Sápmi by the Swedish government!

The British company Beowulf wants to open up a iron ore mine on indigenous land. The Sámi are one of Europe’s recognised Indigenous people, living in a part of the world not only experiencing heating four times faster than the global average, but also an area that is still being exploited for its natural resources by the forest- and mining industry, just to name a few.

The Swedish government now has to decide on whether this mine can open. The Sámi communities have clearly said no to this mine, as it would be an environmental disaster and jeopardise reindeer herding and therefore also their traditional ways of life. This is a clear example of how neocolonialism still exploits people and nature. We cannot remain silent. Please sign the petition (link in bio) to show solidarity and demand the Swedish government to make the right decision!
