Andrew Gillum Instagram – Today’s #womenshistorymonth spotlight goes to Georgia State Representative @renittashannon. Renitta grew up in Central Florida with her sister in a religious household. Her father was a pastor. During college Shannon worked as a restaurant server, earned scholarships, took out student loans, and with the help of her parents, she graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Renitta has been a consistent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and in 2017 came out as bisexual- making her the first bisexual legislator to serve in the Georgia General Assembly. Renitta is now running for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. If elected, Renitta would make history as the first black woman and LGBTQ+/SGL to serve as Lt. Governor in Georgia’s history. Andrew Gillum Instagram – We’re celebrating Georgia Representative @parkcannon58 today for our #womenshistorymonth series. While many in the country learned of Park following her violent arrest standing up to those who would strip our most vulnerable of their fundamental right to vote, Park has been a public servant since Day 1. The youngest member of the Georgia House of Representatives, Park serves on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, the nation’s largest state black caucus, as the Chair of the Civil and Human Rights Committee. Park also is a member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network. Last year, Park penned a new book called “The Universal Guide to Running for Office” – check it out!
