A year ago today you knocked on my door and- without trepidation or judgment- undertook the gentlest page one rewrite on my life. In this year we’ve done a lot- moved 3 times, traveled the world and lived out of a shared suitcase (with dogs!) made art, joined friends and families- oh, and gotten married. You are the wisest, funniest and most talented co-pilot I could imagine. There’s no choice I don’t want to make with you and nothing I don’t want to hear your take on and my favorite time of the day is when we chat ourselves to sleep. Thank you for picking me, and for picking me up out of the only self I thought I could be. I used to hate fish, but I like it when you cook it- and that’s the best metaphor I can find for all of this. It’s an understatement to say you are IT, but if there’s ever a day to say it then it’s every February 15th from now on. Te amo, LuLu.
You’d be surprised to know that I am being way more productive in the bathing suit booty pic than in full hair and makeup (hunkered down, trying to bring the people what they don’t yet know they want!)

Our latest episode of The C-Word is about our favorite iconic goth, the alterna-girl of our dreams, the complex woman we were delighted to spend the whole fall contemplating- MISS WINONA HOROWITZ AKA WINONA RYDER AKA OUR OWN WINNIE. We only talk about women we love, but this one is special because she formed us. We hope we did right by her story. At the very least, she has a pair of besties who are gabbing about her for hours and that’s gotta mean something. Link in bio to listen on @hearluminary!

Like all of you, we’ve been watching with deep concern from our home- to be on the same continent as Ukrainian people and yet experiencing such a starkly different reality is a sharp reminder that we are all living unique circumstances, separated even from the people in our own communities by luck and circumstance, and we must keep our eyes peeled for how to act as everyday forces of good in what continue to be unprecedented times. In our home, that’s meant going through clothes to send on to Ukrainian refugees, donating to every place that will have us and supporting businesses based in Ukraine (while intentionally boycotting the Russian economy, inspired by governments and corporations who have ceased Russian trade.) None of this- and no social media post- can be as vital as the brave acts of protest we are seeing, or as heroic as the everyday people standing on the front lines to protect their country. As someone with Ukrainian heritage, it has always been a dream to visit- and I pray we can protect this way of life so that is still a possibility. In the meantime, we will do all we can to support a brave & beautiful nation.
Below are a smattering of ideas you can try from your own home 🇺🇦
💙 Join me in donating to @careorg’s Ukrainian crisis fund, which is working to get food, water and hygiene kits to displaced women, children and the elderly (link in bio).
💛 Shop my favorite brand, @daily_sleeper, founded by amazing Ukrainian women giving back with every purchase
💙 Follow inspiring artist @yemchuk who has captured her native Ukraine with such style and grace again and again and is also sharing resources.

You asked, we answered – we gave you so much Winona Ryder that it can’t even fit into one episode. We are so thrilled that y’all are as interested in every detail of our favorite Thinking Woman’s starlet, whose story also has a lot to say about how we handled celebrity before the language of trauma and mental health hit the mainstream and also what total toddlers we can be as a society when we are given ANYTHING nice. Winnie, W or as I’d call you if you were my bestie- my Ryde or Die. Thank you for all you’ve given us. Join us for Part II and let’s get even deeper, our little mongers of intellectual deep dives disguised as gossip (or vice fuckin versa). Available on @hearluminary and @apple Podcasts, link in bio to listen.
