Grandparents appreciation post!
It’s been three days we have moved to our new home, and Ishaan is missing his grandparents, his Ishaanu house, as he calls his old home and his great grand mother – Nana as he calls her with love.
Grandparents play such an integral role in our lives. They have so many stories and experiences from their own lives to share, and this truly creates the bond between Ishaan and his dadi.
Stories also are majorly responsible for my relationship with my grandmother in law – I treasure her stories from her childhood, about the partition, about the war, what she did and how she behaved.. and what a fabulous strong woman all that has made her.
It all takes me back to my bond with grandparents and lying on my grandpas lap and hearing stories about his childhood, his presence at the Jallianwala bagh massacre and how he escaped, stories about my dad growing up – i tell ishaan these stories now and he curiously asks me so many questions which takes me back to my childhood.
Grandparent offer a link between a child’s cultural heritage and family history – which is incredibly personal to each family and is invaluable.
Somebody correctly said “Value of a relation is not how much one feels happy with a person, but it’s the emptiness that one feels without that person.” However busy we are in our lives, when we come back home and in our moments of togetherness we miss our cushioning – our family! Lucky for us grandparents live close by, and we will still have time with them, but we yet miss having them in just the other room as of now.
To all those who live with grandparents – give them tight hug and tell them how important they are to us.
