On Ram Navami, our family tradition is to distribute panakam (it’s like lemon juice) and Kosambri (cucumber salad) to passers by. My mother always ensures that we do this even today. It’s nice to see people stopping and accepting our gesture in the summer heat. I however realise that this simple sense of community is disappearing in big cities today. When we were children, during Ganesh Chaturthi I remember going to strangers houses down the street uninvited…but this would be unthinkable today. I’m not sure what has changed in our lifestyle … but something intangible certainly has changed. It’s just something I was thinking about…. Anyway, hope you all had a lovely weekend!
