The image of a submissive, helpless woman is repeated through history, across cultures. It is an image that is used to sell commercial merchandise repeatedly. “My full lips, my youth… is it my fault? My breasts, my body… objects of desire… my fault again?” Most abuse happens when girls are too young to realise what’s going on; Too young to stand up for themselves …. They become the targets of abuse when they don’t have voices of their own yet and the abuser’s prey on their vulnerability. Many abused women wonder if it was their fault… wonder if they did something wrong… if they had dressed differently, walked differently, spoken differently… would they have been able to change things? This piece draws on many stories of abuse and retribution and how we perceive abuse as a society. Rukmini Vijayakumar Instagram – Loving this song! I danced to the Telugu version of this song but couldn’t find it on reels…. But this has the same meaning I think 😊

I find that it’s very important to pause and reassess where I’m going … what I’m doing … constantly. We are humans … I’m allowed to change my perspective about something. This openness to change allows me to consider others opinions/ thoughts/ perceptions. After consideration, I may finally choose to stick to my own idea, but the fact that I allow this option of change makes a big difference.

I might have been more single pointed with my ideas of dance… but now I find myself being able to appreciate a lot more because of being more open to different thought processes.

This is not just with respect to dance – it’s with respect to life at large…. And these small things make a big difference to how we see the world …

Pictures “just posing” nothing very introspective 🤪
