Taylor Rees Instagram – It’s been good to see some new scrutiny of the practices and loose regulations around lithium mining in Chile’s Salar de Atacama with the incoming Convergencia Social, including the news that Chile’s Environment Superintendence has launched a legal procedure against Albemarle, one of the largest mining operations there, for over-extracting brine water. I’m feeling wary though that meaningful implementation of more sustainable practices, or protection of the most ecologically and culturally sensitive areas (both in Chile and in northern Argentina).
