Orange County is in mourning. Today, I visited Geneva Presbyterian Church to lay flowers in honor of Dr. John Cheng, a true hero whose sacrifice saved lives, and to show respect for all who are suffering because of yesterday’s horrific act of violence.

We have a tax gap because the richest Americans don’t pay what they owe while the rest of us do.
In a hearing today, I quizzed the IRS Commissioner: how much have audits of millionaire taxpayers declined in the past 10 years?
…And he got the right answer! He told me that audits of millionaires have dropped by at least 2/3 in the past decade—more than any of the options on my whiteboard here.
If the richest 1% of taxpayers paid what they owe, like the rest of us do, we could give every taxpayer $1000.
Dr. John Cheng undoubtedly saved lives when he charged a shooter at his mother’s church this past Sunday. Today, I joined my Orange County colleagues for a moment of silence on the House floor to honor Dr. Cheng’s life, legacy, and sacrifice.
Washington should work for the people, not for special interests. @RepJasonCrow and I chair the End Corruption caucus, and we met earlier this week to strategize how we can get dark money out of politics, restore trust in government, and more.
We had our first family beach egg hunt today. For those inspired to try this for themselves, I have some tips! 🤓 #easter
1. No chocolate because it melts. This one I knew! Jelly beans are easy to clean sand from, just in case. As my son Paul pointed out, so are dollar bills 😳😂
2. Make sure your eggs don’t have holes. Close tightly.
3. Count eggs before burying so you leave no plastic behind.
4. Don’t get too ambitious. Sand is sneaky! I dug deep holes and got a blister, but these are some tired kids.
5. Save some special candy treats that kids can earn for trading in garbage they find while searching for eggs.

Fishing is essential to California’s economy, and an overwhelming majority of fish caught in our state swim through @bolsachica_lt at some point in their lives. This saltwater marsh, once an oil field, is a testament to how critical it is we protect our environment. #EarthDay

Orange County public schools are some of our community’s greatest assets. I recently congratulated the top finishing teams of our 2021 Congressional App Challenge, a competition that invites middle and high school students to test their coding and entrepreneurial skills.

Today, we reflect on the horrors of the Holocaust and remember the millions of lives cut short by hate. I joined
@HolocaustMuseum
in listening to survivors tell their stories, and I was honored to say the names and light a candle in memory of 10 victims. #HolocaustRemembranceDay
I’m grateful for the workers who are strengthening Orange County’s infrastructure. Thanks, @southwestcarpenters, for showing me around this @405_improvement construction site! The project, paid for in part through federal funds, will improve 16 miles of the 405 in Orange County.

Our faith communities help make Orange County a special place to live. I was honored to lead a prayer today at Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council’s annual #NationalDayofPrayer breakfast. I spoke about how we are at our strongest when we work together and think of others.

We have a duty to support our troops when they return from service. I recently joined an @ocvmfc meeting to discuss my bipartisan bill, the Driving Veterans Success Act, that would make it easier for veteran-owned small businesses to compete for federal contracts.
Corporate lobbyists shouldn’t get to drown out the voices of families in Washington. As Co-Chair of the End Corruption caucus, I will keep pushing to get big money out of politics, protect voting rights, and strengthen our democracy. Thanks, @letamericavote, for the recognition!
Americans lost ~$5.8 billion to fraudsters last year. With scams against seniors on the rise, it’s critical people know how to protect themselves and their loved ones. This Wednesday, I’m going live with experts from the Federal Trade Commission and @AARP to discuss how older Americans can stay safe.
