Lena Dunham Instagram – As we come to the close of yet another C-Word season, I am contemplating why it is that we make this show. It started out with a desire to discuss eccentric women and reframe the way the media has thought about them (Alissa as an obsessive historian and me as some random b*tch with a bone to pick.) But we see again and again that the dissection of women by the press and their fans doesn’t stop – it only changes as we come up with new code words to use (if Dailymail calls me quirky, curvaceous, outspoken or casual one more TIME…) And the culture’s effect on the women it idolizes has never been more apparent than with our final subject of the season, Linda Evangelista, who has told a painfully true story about what it is to be built up for your beauty and to be trapped by those same expectations. Deep diving on Linda was a joy- whether she was blowing minds simply by cutting her hair or saying she wouldn’t get out of bed for less than 10,000 dollars a day (spoiler alert: she was being kinda cheeky but the press had already cast her in her role as bratty supermodel.)
