First things first on the new property, an outdoor shower…with a twist! @jacobwitzling and I turned these saguaro cactus bones into an outdoor shower!
Y’all we’ve done it…again! @jacobwitzling and I found the perfect location for a Desert Cabinland! After road tripping for months in the southwest and literally following the stars, we came upon this magical place. We have so many ideas and ways we hope to honor this space, this little slice of heaven on earth, and we can’t wait to start sharing this new adventure with all of you!
Desert cabin by @saraunderwood and @jacobwitzling With the exterior complete on our first structure here in the majesty of the Southwest, we’re excited to finally share it with everyone. Every piece of material you see, from the doors to the siding, has been salvaged. It is important for us to consume and use as little new material as possible, from an environmental perspective. We also believe using salvaged materials gives our structures character. Each window and piece of trim has a story and a history it tells through faded paint. We designed the rooftop to reflect the desert floor and provide a seating and viewing area. Nearly 10 yards of sandy loam form the perfect substrate for native cactus, ocotillo and creosote to thrive. We’ve engineered the structure to be able to sustain the additional weight of the soil and flora, as well as the strong winds and heavy rains that come every summer during monsoon season. We created the pattern on the large French doors to reflect the constellation, Orion, which nearly every night has watched over us from the vast open skies of this desert oasis #beautifuldestinations #architecture #diy #realestate #beautifulhomes #cabin #tinyhouse
