Thandiwe Newton Instagram – When I was 12 I danced professionally with the #RoyalFestivalBallet for the Christmas production of The Nutcracker in London (2 weeks, 2 shows a day, and I earned £30 🙄 ha ha ha!) I was the first black kid ever to perform with the company. And perhaps any other British dance company? But there was no fanfare. These silent victories that were never applauded, I realise I had many. I just kept going, never looking up. We live in a time when these victories for people of colour are sometimes recognised, and occasionally celebrated. To all those who demand better, who force change and sacrifice WITHOUT the ring of applause in their ears – I see you. You matter more than anything. Every day is a new day. Ubuntu 🙏🏽 Thandiwe
