Home Actor Sanford Biggers HD Instagram Photos and Wallpapers June 2022 Sanford Biggers Instagram - 👁 Nile, 2022 featured in ‘The Extinction Agenda’ @massimodecarlogallery (closed on 6/4/22) The body is based off of a French sculpture from the 1800s that was called La Seine. The figure is based off of a river god. And the river god is an archetype that you see in a lot of Greco-Roman history as well as other cultures, representing, you know, the force and strength and power and mystery of rivers. And I've been fascinated with that motif so some of those figures are in this particular show. I was playing with the names and of course La Seine represents the river in France and in this case, I renamed it Nile because of the presence of another hybridized African mask that's on top of the figure. Nile is made out of 'Rosso Cardinale' marble, and one of the things that really draws me to it is the very beautiful hue, that sort of reddish pinkish clayish type of colour and the very distinctive veining that goes through it almost like a river itself. #hybrid #history #sculptureart #studiosanfordbiggers #marble Massimo De Carlo, Hong Kong
