Ingrid Bolsø Berdal Instagram – Last night’s shooting at pubs in the centre of Oslo cost two people their lives and wounded many. The today’s celebration of love, freedom, the right to choose who we love – Oslo Pride Parade – is cancelled. We don’t know yet what the motive of the shooter was. But many feel fearful today.

A part of me wants to write: “No matter what others might say or do to you: You are free”. From one angel, I believe in that. We are free. But it can be hard to practice such a belief on days like this.

Roe vs Wade. Gun policy. Hunger. War. Hate towards people who love someone of their own gender. What we humans do to each other can be unfathomable. And it can feel as if we’re moving backwards. But I’m still full of hope, I am.

We are coming together. Perhaps we are to cry. In a safe space, perhaps we are to allow the anger. Let it harmlessly rumble through our bodies. Express sorrow. The emotions themselves don’t hurt anyone, perhaps they safely need to be felt. And on the other side, after a while, we can keep doing the work. Together. Protecting our rights. Together.
