Pallavi Sharda Instagram – I’ve had the pleasure of dolling up, sitting next to, holding space and laughing along with some pretty incredible humans as we celebrated the release of #TheTwelve these past few weeks.

As a woman of colour who was once (many times) told that there is no place for her on Australian screens, it gives me so much joy to have shared the company of so many that I admire, and to have felt their camaraderie, empathy and love.

Sometimes, though, when asked to talk about my experiences as a ‘diverse’ actor 🤦🏽‍♀️ on Aussie screens, I bite my tongue, mince my words, or joke around the big bush that is the history of discrimination in our media industry. Sometimes the photograph belies the pain, the eloquence hides the rawness of unbelonging that so many have felt that still lives when I walk onto set everyday and find that sticker on the floor which tells me where to stand.

As my courtroom colleagues and I gear up for audiences to see our hard work come to fruition – my heart and mind is set on the intention I hold dear when I go to work everyday: That this space is for everyone, and systems that don’t serve everyone don’t deserve to displace anyone. That the agency with which we are portraying our characters on screen ought to be endowed upon those who work tirelessly to fight for those characters’ existence & authenticity in the first place. That these conversations might actualise in the everyday.

It’s a privileged place from which to speak – talking about culture-making. But storytelling is the bedrock of community-building and its narrative has the power to steer people’s concept of who they are and how they belong for entire lifetimes.

#TheTwelve came to @foxtel tonight – I hope you get a chance to witness the talent that abounds each frame ✨
Pallavi Sharda Instagram – Just a couple of the cool cats I grew to tolerate while shooting #Thetwelve and proof that I am a ruthless psychopath.

The show premieres tonight on @foxtel 🎥
