Sona Movsesian Instagram – I’ve felt so upset the past month that I can’t get myself to post anything. I’m worried not commenting on anything going on will make me seem indifferent, which is so far from the truth.
..
I’ve been seeing so many troubling images over the past week but the most troubling are the ones of militant police officers assaulting innocent protestors. I’m reminded of the first images I saw of police brutality – a grainy video four police officers senselessly beating Rodney King with their batons and understanding even at a young age how unwarranted their actions were.
..
Today would have been Breonna Taylor’s birthday. She was killed because the police made a mistake. When most people make an error at work (like I do many times) the mistake doesn’t result in loss of life. We need to hold people accountable regardless of what uniform they’re wearing (or used to wear). Putting a knee on someone’s neck and cutting off air supply for over 8 minutes is wrong. Chasing down a jogger on the street and shooting him in broad daylight is wrong. This isn’t controversial and every American should be outraged. Effective and decent law enforcement can make a community thrive – anything less than that and we fall apart.
..
I know we can be better. In the meantime I’ll donate to whatever causes I can and read whatever material people recommend to me. I know I have work to do but I’ll do whatever is necessary to make sure I’m on the right side of all this. I think each and every one of you is special and I’m honored you have even come this far in this incredible long caption.
