Edi Gathegi Instagram – I dislike long ones but I’m doing one: TODAY the collective wealth held by blacks in all of America is LESS than 2%. It was just less than 1% right after SLAVERY, think about that. Not much has changed on the promise of black prosperity and equality. President Andrew Johnson instead of true reconstruction after the civil war, said (when referring to southern property meant for blacks), “this is a country for white men, and by god, as long as I’m president, it shall be governed by white men” overturning General Sherman’s order to give black families 40 acres and a mule for the purposes of much needed wealth building. Black families that managed to build wealth independently were PLUNDERED and robbed, as financial progress by blacks was a direct affront to white supremacy. Shocked? We’re not. For all the Oprah’s and Jay Z’s and even the lesser successful black people who’ve “made it” myself included, “successful blacks” are a decoy to distract YOU from the issue of an intentional systemic wealth gap, the quiet plunder, meant to subjugate in the name of white supremacy. And our supposed black mobility is meant to keep us sated in a system that has, in its beneficence, “allowed” few of us to slip through the cracks. It’s false, and we are in many ways exactly where we were — and our people feel the systemic oppression in so many facets. Our people are hurting. Our people are dying. Our people are being locked up for far too long for far too little and ABUSED once there. We want our freedom. We want to live. We want our voices heard. We want equal rights. We want representation. We want acknowledgement of the abusive past and how it’s never stopped abusing us. We want reparations. We want restitution. We need allies. We need change. | Posted on 07/Jun/2020 07:10:37
