6 years ago today Gus performed his first show. The show took place on February 13, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona with Schemaposse. I bought him a ticket to fly out of JFK on February 12. His friends–JGrxxn, Ghostemane—would meet him at the airport and take care of him.
As he psyched himself up for this new stage in his life, Gus had an instinct that he needed to have some sort of signature style—a “look” that would set him apart. He decided that he wanted pink hair. To get color, he had to bleach the hair first. Emma was good at this stuff, so she was put in charge of getting the hair supplies. After they bleached his hair, she put the hair dye in. When it was all done, he hated it. It was a very pale pink. He threatened to shave his head bald. By this time, it was getting pretty late in the evening. Emma, Gus’s friend Ian and I were all sitting there. None of us were particularly startled or bothered by this threat since Gus was always shaving his hair off and then growing it out again. He wanted very bright pink. So, Emma ran across the street to the Rite-Aid and came back with the bright magenta color that we can see in the photos Gus took of himself February 9 and 10, 2016. He loved it. He loved it so much that he took many photos of himself posing with this new hair color and even sent me a short video (in the middle of my school day). He had taken this short video of himself and Taz lying on my bed—which matched his hair! NOW he was prepared to perform at his first concert.
The show took place in a small warehouse room filled with a bunch of dedicated fans who knew the lyrics to Gus’s Beamer Boy by heart. He also performed Lil Kennedy, Pray I Die, Let Me Bleed, Praying To The Sky, The Pull Off, and Words You Hear On A Sinking Ship. His fans remain loyal and passionate six years later.

FEELZ – MAY 20
cocaine shawty video out now
Gus made Feelz pretty soon after he returned from Pasadena, where he had made Keep My Coo and Latitude a few months before. Gus returned on February 1, 2015. By mid-March, he had asked for and gotten the only two things he needed to make music on his own, using his laptop in his bedroom: a condenser mic and a pair of beats headphones. It was soon after that when Gus made Feelz. He made a video for the title track and recorded footage for the song Life, though never realized that footage into a video. Gus was in the very early stage of making music. He was learning from friends and collaborators he made through SoundCloud and Twitter. They gave him advice about how to mix his own vocals, and how to set plug-ins in GarageBand. They were the ones who told him to get a real mic. During this experimental process, Gus created and deleted many songs. Feelz was the first set of songs Gus felt proud of—proud enough to upload onto SoundCloud–and keep there. We are happy to be able to release Feelz on its seven year anniversary, exactly as Gus made it.

Gus lived with Yunggoth for many months–in Denver, Pasadena, Skid Row, Echo Park, and London (briefly). Throughout that time, Gus only said positive things about him to me and our family. In fact, when Gus was home in September 2016, he bought a monogrammed stuffed unicorn, and gave directions for me to mail it so Yunggoth would receive it. Goth was an integral part of Gus’s life. It was clear Gus cared very much for him. I am glad to be able to release this three-track project that shows the beginning, middle, and last part of their collaboration and friendship.

HIGH FASHION is a three track EP by Gus and @harryfraud. Gus met Harry when he was home in New York for Christmas in December 2016 / January 2017. Gus was going to fly back to Los Angeles a couple of days after New Year’s Eve, but he got word that Harry wanted to get into the studio with him, so he decided to stay. He was incredibly excited and honored to be able to work with the producer that he admired so much. The sound of the two songs that they made together over two nights in the studio (Choose & Living Rooms) are very unique. No other songs of his have the same vibe, the same feeling. Gus and Harry had planned to call their project HIGH FASHION. The third song, “Old Me,” is a song Gus originally wrote in 2015 that Harry had an impassioned interest in working on and reproducing. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Gus would be proud and honored that Harry had brought “Old Me” to life for us all to enjoy.
