Thomas Brag Instagram – The secret is out, the mysterious place I traveled to a few months was SYRIA. A place that I’ve heard so much about for most of my adult life but not one I will pretend to have truly tried to understand until recent years.
As you go further and further into travel to places few dare to go, you meet people who challenge your preconceptions of the word. A few years ago that person for me was @drewbinsky who told me about his trip to Syria and I couldn’t believe what I heard. The friendliest people, the most incredible history and some of the best food in the world… Wow.
He introduced me to the awe-inspiring human and local friend/guide @ghaidaa_the_guide with whom I’ve been speaking to for almost 2 years. And since that day, I knew this trip would happen one day, but when? I had no clue.
As it is still hard to gauge the risk levels from far away and I’d already given my parents enough heart attacks with some of the my recent trips I wasn’t sure if this would be a good idea. Doubt crept into my mind.
However, at the start of the year as Syria re-opened it’s borders after closing for Covid. All the arrows were pointing me in that direction.
Should I do it?
I needed more help… How do I capture this and give the visuals the justice they deserve with Americans not allowed into the country? That’s when @toumabittar from the Yes Fam came into the picture. Whom I’d soon find out was the kindest and most hard working videographer in Syria.
As our team was assembled alongside @fadiassigt who opened doors to many places few get to go to through his company with Ghaidaa @golden.team.Syria we had the most eye-opening trip of my life.
I have lots more to share. In the meantime I just want to thank everyone for all of the incredible feedback so far. I was terrified to put this out, nervous about how it would be received. So I feel incredibly relieved and grateful at the moment.
I’m finally in my flow I knew I’d find at the start of the year and all I can say is that it feels great to be sharing stories that both inspire me to create and those watching 🧘♂️💙 | Posted on 26/Jul/2022 19:37:14
