Alexa Davies Instagram – Hello there. I was supposed to have a busy day today, but this is what I did instead. I still had a lovely day but I’d like to tell you why my plans changed. It’s not that sad of a story. The world has actual, terrible things going on and I’m fully aware that it won’t implode because something a bit shit happened to me but I’d like to share this. I received a phone call this week from my agent. A production had an actress test positive for Covid. They needed someone right away to work on the project for a few days. It was a one line role. I was available & happy to help. I rushed over to the productions base & had a fitting with the brilliant Costume team. There were a couple of alterations to be made, but everything went well. I even felt so cool (and fit) in one of the outfits, that I sent a picture to Jim. The next evening, I received a phone call from my agent. (I feel it’s important to say here that I’m incredibly close with my agents. They’ve been looking after me since I was 16 and have been a constant source of love and protection.) My agent struggled passing on what he had to say, but felt it important that I got to hear the truth. The production had decided to recast. Because I was ‘heavier’ than they expected. This shattered me. I’m still a bit sad now. But I’m also glad that this happened to me, and not to an actor that may be in a more fragile state. What hurt most, sweet reader, is that this production was headed up almost entirely by women. The writer. The director. The producer. The executive producer. It was women who deemed me too ‘big’ to be attractive. And that’s really shit. I love my job. I’ve been doing it for 10 years now. I like to think I’m quite good at it. And I’m lucky enough to know that people who have worked with me, people that know me and don’t just see a heavy girl, don’t feel the same way that these women do. Right, thank you for making it this far. I’m going to watch Eurovision now and cry when Sam Ryder sings. I’ll be having a kebab for dinner along with some champagne.
