He embodied humanity, dignity, determination as easily as romance, humor, and compassion on screen and in life.
He is as important to film history as Jackie Robinson is to baseball history.
I was lucky to work with him many years ago and he made an indelible impression on this young actor.
There was his atomic smile and infectious laugh, of course.
His work ethic, commitment, and endurance on set was remarkable.
And he was a great actor. I don’t mean ‘great’ like movie star ‘great’, although he certainly was that; but ‘great’ like actor-to-actor ‘great’.
