Uncivilised people always choose to fight each other. War is not a solution to any conflict. Can war be abolished? Yes we can. It is important that the young people who inherit this world must understand war is not an option at all to solve problems. Perhaps with this understanding, future wars can be avoided. Conflicts must be solved through negotiations, arbitration and reference to the world court. I also listened to presentations from participants about peace projects. It seems that they have been studying wars, and peace, and they have suggestions on how to maintain peace. They have many ideas and I may use some of the ideas in future talks that I may give to other people. It is important for future leaders to be exposed to the problem early when they are still young so that they do not go wrong and perhaps become a good leader some day. Global Arena, Fukuoka

Mahathir Mohamad Instagram – OUT OF CONTEXT 1. The report on what I said at the meeting with Malays is not accurate. I am not asking Malaysia to claim the land that we had lost. I am trying to point out that we are so concerned over losing a table-size rock but never about bigger parts of Malaysia when they were taken from us. Losing Pulau Batu Puteh is no big deal. It was the mistake of the Johore Government to deny that the rock belonged to Johor. Had that denial not been made, there would be no dispute now. 2. We should be grateful that the world court awarded Pulau Ligitan and Sipadan to us. They are much more valuable than Pulau Batu Puteh – just a rock outcrop. Mahathir Mohamad Instagram – Naratif Melayu sering disalah guna sebagai semangat ‘Melayu Islam’ tetapi akhirnya, pihak-pihak tertentu mengambil kesempatan untuk kepentingan diri sendiri. Apabila bercakap soal Melayu, ia bukanlah untuk mengambil hak orang lain. Pendapat saya kerap kali tidak disukai oleh ramai pihak. Apabila saya mengkritik orang Melayu, tidak bermakna saya merendahkan bangsa kita tetapi saya mahu orang Melayu berubah kepada yang lebih baik. Yang paling penting ialah kita sedar kesilapan kita dan membetulkannya bukan hanya menyalahkan orang lain. Kita kena tahu di mana kita salah dan kita betulkan. Adalah lebih mudah membetulkan diri sendiri daripada perbetul orang lain. Orang Melayu sebenarnya tidak ada yang kurang sama ada dari segi kebolehan dan kebijaksanaan. Soalnya sama ada kita nak buat atau tidak. Bak kata pepatah, “Kita boleh bawa kuda kepada air, tetapi sama ada kuda itu minum air atau tidak bergantung kepada kuda tersebut”. Ini bermakna, kalau kita bagi peluang, tapi tak ambil peluang itu dengan sebaiknya, kita yang akan rugi. Saya berterima kasih kepada Gagasan Bangsa, penganjur Persidangan Meja Bulat: Penjenamaan Semula Naratif Politik Melayu, kerana menjemput saya ke program ini.
