Micky Dolenz Instagram – One day in the spring of 1966, I cut my classes in architecture at LA Trade Tech to take an audition for a new TV show called, “The Monkees”. The co-creator/producer of the show was Bob Rafelson. At first I mistook him for another actor there for the audition as he wasn’t much older than me. Needless-to-say, I got the part and it completely altered my life. Regrettably, Bob passed away last night after a long illness but I did get a chance to send him a message telling him how eternally grateful I was that he saw something in me. Rest in peace, my friend, and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Micky Dolenz Instagram – The Monterey Pop Festival took place 55 years ago this week. Here’s a snippet from an interview I did with TCM about my memories.
“ I was invited up by the Mamas and the Papas. I just remember it was, ‘Hey, we’re having a concert festival thing up in Monterey, can you make it?’ Originally, I said no, because we were filming [The Monkees]. Then the producers of the show actually decided to take a hiatus because they wanted to go. I had this cool outfit made; I got an Indian headdress from the wardrobe department because I’m part Indian. It was a last-minute thing. Peter and I flew up or drove up. So, I just started hanging out. And that’s where I saw Jimi Hendrix and suggested to our producers that he be the opening act for The Monkees. I had seen him in one of those Greenwich Village clubs as Jimmy James. He’d been described as ‘the guy who could play guitar with his teeth.’ When he came out onstage with Mitch (Mitchell) and Noel (Redding), I said, ‘That’s the guy who plays guitar with his teeth.’ And after that he was booked to be our opening act.”
