Nicole Seah Instagram – During the media doorstop at the Worker’s Party National Day dinner, I was asked to provide some updates on East Coast GRC. We have an ongoing slate of activities that includes HDB house visits, landed estate visits, market walkabouts, food distribution and community initiatives like free haircuts and BlueCycle. Since 2020, we have grown from strength to strength with more new volunteers coming from within East Coast as residents of the area. I believe that more of them, especially younger Singaporeans, want to see a stronger WP showing. In order to do that, the work would have started not only in 2025, but right after 2020’s polling day. These efforts fall on the backs of both young and older volunteers, many of whom helped to soften the ground as they tirelessly walked alongside NCMP @perera.leon back in 2015 until today. Areas in East Coast used to be cold and unwilling to engage, but the sheer number of active, persistent, and diligent volunteers amidst the lack of fanfare or benefits have helped us to pave the way for future elections. As @fooseckguan.sg rightfully pointed out in his own post, it is the unseen sacrifice, blood, sweat, tears, family/personal time on the backs of several volunteers who are truly our unsung heroes of the team. This similarly applies to the larger base of WP volunteers who painstakingly put this dinner together year after year, barring covid limitations. Months of planning goes on behind the setup of such a large scale event, from things such as ensuring that the tentage scaffolding is set up properly, to coordinating the sales of tickets, taking care of merchandise and even the manpower stacking chairs before and after the event. It takes a village and it is only with this selfless village that we are able to sustain our efforts and the impact made. Hougang, Singapore
