It’s a given that a book lover can never leave with just one book 🤭 So for this month, we have two books, straight from Strand Bookstore in New York. The books have been penned by strong, inspirational authors, and the storyline for both revolves around people of colour, and marginalized women. The first one is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It’s about two people in love who leave military-ruled Nigeria – one heads to America, and the other lands up in London. 15 years later, they reunite in a newly democratic Nigeria, and reignite their passion – for each other and for their homeland. Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo follows the lives and struggles of twelve very different characters. Mostly women, black and British, they tell the stories of their families, friends and lovers, across the country and through the years.
