Toks Olagundoye Instagram – Trailer selfie. Another project that is embracing my natural curls! Listen, I have no problem with a blow out and I don’t dislike having my hair straight, but I feel much more myself with my hair like this. I wore it curly until I was in my mid thirties and realized that I booked more work with my hair blown straight. Booked with it straight means I worked with it straight. Heck, even when I auditioned with it curly they’d straighten it the second I got into the hair trailer. The very few times I was “allowed” to wear it natural, the hair folks would just tie it back or put it in a bun. This is project number three in a row in which my tresses are free to be one hundred percent me and I’m so happy. European standards of beauty are what we have been taught and we all buy in to them, but beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, heights, colors and textures. You are beautiful just as you are. Remember this and please don’t feel as though you have to try to fit your body, hair, face, skin into a box that doesn’t represent the real you. A constricted realm that you either don’t feel comfortable in or don’t feel completely yourself in. Thank you to all the producers, directors and hair/MUA folks in the business who support and advocate for this. You’re making a difference in more than the industry. Representation matters ♥️
