A.J. Johnson Instagram – Assin Monso in Central Region Ghana, is home of the river where enslaved Africans had their last bath before being marched to the slave dungeons in Cape Coast Ghana. Walking the same path is always emotional for me- yet empowering. Rarely done at night I wanted to do it when they did it… barefoot-under the black of night.. scared- unknowing.💔. I go every January, lead by my amazing brother Kofi, to start my year – connecting with the ancestors – asking the spirits for my purpose – committing to the assignment, and washing off all that blocked me-the people places and things that did not serve me in the year I leave behind. Some of the ancestors died in this river- some on the walk- in the dungeons -on the sail to America. But here-it was their last bath. It is now my first bath as I step into the new year.
