Celina Jaitly Instagram – #FromTheDeskOfCelinaJaitly I come from four generations of armed forces and have seen true selfless patriotism as I come from a family of martyrs. Our flag rests on the graves of the brave who “chose” smilingly to lay their lives for our country. My father was a young Lieutenant when he was gravely wounded in 1971 war. He lived the rest of his life smilingly despite the damage the war had done to his body and soul, but never once did he ever complain. My grandfather was prisoner of war in the 1962 Chinese aggression, tortured, wounded but never once regretted fighting for his country, he used to smile and tell me stories of the times when the combat gear for high altitude in those days was no comparison to what soldiers have today, they fought with normal boots in high altitude in negative temperatures and 8-10 feet of snow and in the 1962 war even though they were outnumbered by the enemy each Indian soldier died taking 20 enemies with him. I saw in my own brother a Para SF, officer the strain of combat and how he remained changed forever after his many years of deployment in dangerous active combat zones. The price our soldiers pay both in life and in death is beyond comprehension, no compensation is enough to repay them and their families for their ultimate sacrifice hence I take the time today yet again to value the ones on whom our freedom rests, our nations heroes and never forget the sacrifices from those who gave us freedom. As my dad ( Colonel VK Jaitly, SM) always said : If you want to do something for a soldier be an Indian worth fighting for!” Happy Independence Day! I do not have my great grandfathers photograph. He fought in World War 1 in Basra ( Iraq) and was recipient of the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal.
