The reality is quite different as I sit here, unable to sleep, ratty hair, full of cold/sinus infection and wondering how the hell life with TWO babies is going to work! That’s real Mamadom - the worry, the exhaustion, the feeling that you’re messing it up. The crusty bogies. (sometimes theirs but mostly mine). But how the world still dearly loves a pretty picture - and it is nice to get dressed up in sequins sometimes 🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️

The reality is quite different as I sit here, unable to sleep, ratty hair, full of cold/sinus infection and wondering how the hell life with TWO babies is going to work! That’s real Mamadom – the worry, the exhaustion, the feeling that you’re messing it up. The crusty bogies. (sometimes theirs but mostly mine). But how the world still dearly loves a pretty picture – and it is nice to get dressed up in sequins sometimes 🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️

Sophia di Martino Instagram - This is us in our living room about 10 mins after baby was born. It was relatively easy and straight forward compared to my first. Baby was two weeks late and the hospital reaaaaly wanted to induce me but we did our own research with the help of @nurturedmotherlondon and my wonderful midwife Tara and decided to wait for things to happen naturally. I’m so glad I did because after a bit of acupuncture from my lovely neighbour, it was over and out in less than an hour. A stubborn placenta didn’t want to budge (so much for the placenta fails after 42 weeks!) but the hardest bit was yet to come. Breastfeeding was painful for over a month (again), insomnia kicked in (again) and I was completely overwhelmed by having two little beings need me so much. I felt like I couldn’t do it. A great wave of anxiety clung to me and has taken months to wash away. I’ve learnt a lot about myself. To go for a walk even if it’s the last thing I want to do. To talk to friends, even if you’re scared of being judged (they will probably just hug you), to trust that you can do it! But the house will be a tip for a while and using the TV as a babysitter is absolutely necessary. The biggest thing I’ve learnt is how to let myself be vulnerable and to ask for help. Keep asking and keep taking it. Look for the kind folk and lean on them. Hold them close. Its messy, it’s bloody, sleep deprivation is a kind of torture. It’s fucking hard and it (almost) breaks you. But other people will hold you up and the sun rises again and the flowers bloom again and life goes on. Its true it takes a village - and we need to use it. #maternalhealthawareness #maternalheath
