I’ve known this squirrel for years. Today he just appeared beside me and put his paw on my leg. He looked at me with a slight air of commiseration. I shrugged. We both sat looking at the trees for a bit.
Obviously, this isn’t me. If you pushed me, I’d say it’s someone whose endgame involves emptying a bin bag of your body parts outside a Welcome Break on the M4 in the dead of night.

Really enjoying this, a sort of left perspective on the different forces within the Independence movement. Neil Davidson’s The Origins of Scottish Nationhood was an influence on some of the chat in my novel, and some of the Tour of Scotland documentary from a few years ago.
