In my over 30 year career Ive not done many interviews to talk about .. me. Infact the last time I did a full on, in depth interview on myself was feb 9 , 1997 with Robert Hilburn for an LA times calendar cover story. 25 years later, Shirley Halperin from Variety reached out to tell me I was chosen as Variety’s Music Mogul of the year and that she would like to tell my story. October 3 this year I will turn 50 years old. The combination of my trust in Shirley with a second chapter just around the corner, it felt like a good time to open up and begin a path to sharing more. There are a few people I would like to thank, SPECIFICALLY from my TEEN years up to age 22.. Freddy DeMann took a big chance on me. I will always be grateful to him for the opportunity he gave me.. She showed me the world since I was a teen. I had NO money in my pocket and ZERO accomplishments to speak of. It didnt matter to her. My potential was what she cared about.. She supported my growth and inspired me to think in an unlimited manner and showed me first hand the importance of hard work. As david geffen told me 30 years ago “there are no short cuts” Madonna was and still is the perfect example of that daily. ✌🏽 ❤️💛💚

Blessed Nika Shakarami was to turn 17 years old on oct 2. Instead she was killed days before. The last message to her friends was that she was being chased by Iranian #tIRANicalregime security forces. She went missing for 10 days after a protest on September 20th. Her body was finally found at a morgue in the capital, her skull destroyed. She was transferred for burial to her fathers hometown of Khorramabad on Oct 2 her 17th birthday. Security forces intervened and stole her body, burying it 25 miles away. Stealing corpses is used as a tactic to silence the families of victims. The police then threatened her family to not to hold a memorial service for her. Our Iranian sisters demand their basic human rights. Im 50 today 🎈 the kid beside me in this photo had the hustle, the energy, the determination,the excitement, the time, the focus , the naivety, the fear and a lot of luck to get me here. Many incredible people supported my journey. They gave me their hand. They believed in me when others did not. They gave me their time and guidance. They made an introduction on my behalf. They were there for me not just in the good times but also in the bad ones. They cared for me when i had zero credentials and no money to my name. They check in on me to make sure im doing well.. When ive done something wrong they talk to me about it directly without judgment. They stand up for me anytime someone has something negative to say. And they smile proudly when they hear someone say good things about me. If you are one of these people. THANK YOU I appreciate you. Ive been chasing my dreams ever since I was a teen. So much has happened for me from then to today but In a way I feel like I’m just getting started. Not professionally but personally. The first 50 prioritized work over everything. I aspire for the next 50 to prioritize happiness. More time with friends. More time with family. More time with myself More time at peace. ❤️💛💚
