One year ago today, a miracle…@vanderkimberly got into our bathtub and birthed a double-rainbow chunk-a-lunk with extra chunk. Proving that everything really IS bigger in Texas. I am actually at a loss for words on how this soul has healed me, inspired me, encouraged me, and made me happy to be on this earth. I don’t even mind that I’m his second-favorite parent 😍 Jeremiah, thank you for knocking on our door and not taking no for an answer. I look forward to learning many, many more valuable lessons from you. I promise you my best, always. Love you, my chunky monkey man.

12 years ago today you changed my life in one instant. Literally the second you came out, I went from recognizing that I would have to put someone else’s needs first… to wanting nothing more than to reorganize my life to support you and whatever you needed. You came out perfect. “Parent-proof” as I like to say. But it’s true. And as I watch you tiptoe into adulthood, one priority re-arrangement at a time… I marvel at your grace, your creativity, and the loving kindness you’ve embodied since day one that continues to bloom in ways that are ever more inspiring more profound. In deep gratitude that, of all the hearts you could have commandeered in this infinite universe… you saw fit to invest in mine. I love you kiddo. You’ve got a fan for life. ❤️

So, I’ve been trying this thing lately… I’d say I’m naturally pretty optimistic. I look for the best in every situation, every person – sometimes to a fault. It’s not that I don’t feel the pain of the world – as an empath, I’m insanely sensitive to it – but since that can be too much sometimes, my go-to is to direct focus in a different direction. Then my friend @arashjacob1 suggested that instead of turning away from the despair and hopelessness… that I give it office hours. Or a half-hour, more specifically: Meditate into the heart of all that sadness for thirty minutes each day – not to try to change it or fix it, not to rationalize it into hope… to just simply observe it for everything it is. This has not been an easy path. But one benefit is that moments of joy feel more fully lived. As if by letting the air out of that despair… I don’t have to carry it. By acknowledging it with my heart… my body no longer sees the need to maintain a tether to that part of the human experience. The other perk… is that this practice of acknowledgment seems to have made it safer to see people, myself, and other parts of life as they really are – instead of how I wish them to be, or how I know they COULD be at their most realized. This approach is NOT for everyone. At least not all the time. Nothing in the consciousness realm is one-size-fits-all. But just in case it resonated with you… I wanted to put it out there.

I find so much joy in re-using cool stuff. If it required skill to make, and was made with the best of intentions… I feel like it’s worth a shot figuring out how to make something special out of it. Grateful my Dad always tinkered. Nobody’s batting average is 100% 🤫… but if you push past the boundaries of what you know how to do, you’re guaranteed to learn something in the attempt. * #reuse #DIY #kidsroom #kidsroomdecor #heartart
The “Please can we watch one more episode of #avatarthelastairbender” dance. #parenting And yes, it worked.
Insane how much our life has changed in 5 years… but damn, that was a fun night. And we have THE BEST souvenir to remember it by 😂❤️. @diplo suggested I name her after the hotel… but @iheartradio had put us up at Planet Hollywood… so, no.
